Movie to Book Comparison

"God grew tired of us" is about men who came to the United States from Sudan to make better lives for themselves by getting jobs, going to school, get a place to live things like that. This movie compares to the book "A long way gone" because the boys in the book had to be in the army to fight and kill people for themselves to stay alive. Later in the book they are taken out of sierra leon by UNICEF and brought to the united states. So that is how the movie is connected to the book.

The cultural Differences between Africa and the United States are in Africa they live together as one big family where as in the United States we live only with our own families. In Africa there is mostly a poor people in the environment where as in the United States there is a mixture of poor and wealthy.A huge cultural difference between the two continents is the way that the celebrate Christmas. In Africa they dance around in a circle where as here in the United States we have presents and trees and other things.

Favorite Book

My favorite book from English class this year is The House on Mango St. by Sandra Cisneros.
I liked this book because there was a lot of subjects in this book that I can relate to. Such as controlling men, being poor and many more. This book is very short but extremely powerful because of how she has written it. I like her as an author because she talks and writes about real topics that she has been through. I also really liked that we had to do the project about this book too because I got to write about the same topics as her which showed me that she is a "real" Writer.

Ariel's Reflection on this year

The things that I liked from this year was everything. I really enjoyed doing all of the projects from English class this year. My favorite unit from this year was the poetry and the vignettes . This particular project really made me realize that I am a very good writer. English class this year has really shown me how much I love English.

The only thing that I did not enjoy doing in this years English class is the acting . Standing up in front of a class is not really my forte. I have a love hate relationship with technology. I love it because that means there is less manual writing for me to do. I hate it because the computers don't always work and there can be technology issues. I think that my English teacher Mrs.Deraps is the best teacher that I have had. She has really helped me this year with controlling myself . We have had a lot of heart to hearts and I really like helping her in English class .

Elie Wiesel quote

“Writing is not like painting where you add. It is not what you put on the canvas that the reader sees. Writing is more like a sculpture where you remove, you eliminate in order to make the work visible. Even those pages you remove somehow remain.”

This quote relates to Night because he is saying that even though the book is only one hundred and fifteen pages long it still is very powerful because of the way that he wrote the book. Writing is powerful no matter how long or how short it is by the way that you word and sculpt it. I agree with this quote because I just finished a huge writing project that all of my writing pieces are short but very powerful by the way that I sculpted them. This quote is really saying that even if you have only like ten pages it does not mean that it is not as powerful as a novel.
